The Bayelsa State Government has constituted a new management board for Bayelsa United FC with a clear mandate to secure the club’s immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
A member of the board, Mr. Godson Ekadi, disclosed this at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria National League (NNL) in Owerri, Imo State.
Ekadi said the board has started on a positive note with the appointment of experienced Nigerian tactician Abdul Maikaba as head coach of the club.
Maikaba, who is also the current head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 national team, brings considerable experience to the Bayelsa United project, having worked extensively within the Nigerian football ecosystem.

Ekadi expressed confidence that Maikaba’s experience and technical knowledge would be crucial to the club’s ambition of returning to the NPFL after just one season in the NNL.
He commended the Bayelsa State Government for its renewed commitment to Bayelsa United and its interest in repositioning the club for greater success.
According to him, the board is determined to justify the confidence placed in it by the government and the people of Bayelsa State.
The mandate is clear. We want to return Bayelsa United to the Premier League in our first year in the NNL. We have started on a good note, and with the calibre of the coach we have appointed, we are confident about the task ahead.
Ekadi assured supporters and other stakeholders that the board would not disappoint in the assignment, promising to work collectively towards building a competitive team capable of securing promotion.
He said the board would also ensure that Bayelsa United remains a strong representative of the state while pursuing its ambition of returning to Nigeria’s top-flight football.
