The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Rilwan Disu, has emphasized the importance of Judo and other combat sports in strengthening the physical fitness, confidence, capacity and operational effectiveness of police officers.

IGP Disu made the remarks during his operational visit to Imo State recently, where he was introduced to members of the Imo State Command Judokas by the Imo Command Judo Coach, DSP Raphael Ubah.

Speaking during the visit, the IGP commended those promoting Judo and described the sport as an important discipline that can help officers develop the strength, confidence and skills needed to defend themselves and effectively handle challenging situations.
According to him, confidence is particularly important for police officers because people they confront can assess their body language and level of confidence.

He explained that an officer who appears weak could encourage an attacker, while an officer who demonstrates confidence and readiness could make an aggressor think twice before attempting an attack.

The IGP encouraged officers to continue training and urged them to make use of the opportunity to train at the Police Headquarters so that other officers could watch them and become motivated to join.

Continue to train, find your time and train at the headquarters, so that other officers will have time to see you train and join you,” he said.

He also commended the coaches and Imo State judokas for their dedication to the development of combat sports within the Police Force and the state. He encouraged them to remain committed to training.

The IGP thanked the coaches and officers for their efforts and expressed his support for the continued development of Judo among police personnel.

Coach, I thank you. God bless you so much,” IGP Disu said.
In conclusion, the IGP was happy with the Judo demonstration exercise and promised to come with his training judogis next time he visits Imo State.
