Coal City Blazers started their Nigeria Premier Basketball League (NPBL) Phase Two campaign on a winning note after securing a hard-fought 64–61 victory over Lagos Raptors.
The Enugu-based side displayed resilience, determination, and composure in a tightly contested encounter, overcoming a strong challenge from their Lagos opponents to pick up a valuable three-point win.
Both teams battled fiercely from the opening tip-off, producing an intense contest, but Coal City Blazers remained calm under pressure in the closing moments to seal the victory.
The result marks a positive beginning for the Blazers as they continue to establish their presence in the NPBL following their impressive entry into the league.
Coal City Blazers will now turn their attention to their next Phase Two fixture against Rivers Hoopers as they aim to build on the momentum from their opening victory.
The teams captain Udeh Callistus Ebuka expressed confidence in his team’s ability to make a strong impact in the Nigeria Premier Basketball League (NPBL), saying the squad has the quality and determination to compete among the best teams.
Ebuka described the hosting of the NPBL in the South East for the first time as a significant milestone for basketball development in the region.
He also commended the efforts of the South East representative on the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board, Chief Ugo Udezue, for his dedication and commitment towards the growth and development of basketball in the zone.
