The South East Basketball Association (SEBA) will host a two-day regional tournament on May 15 and 16 at the Ebonyi Shopping Mall, as part of efforts to deepen grassroots development and expand the game across the zone.
The competition, which tips off at 8:00 a.m. daily, is expected to feature teams from Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra and Abia states, with organisers promising a blend of emerging talents and competitive action.
A major highlight of the event will be the inauguration of the Hon. Richard Idike Basketball Court, facilitated by the South East representative of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Ugo Udeze. The project is aimed at improving access to quality facilities and nurturing young players in the state.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Richard Idike, is billed to attend as special guest, in what organisers describe as a show of institutional backing for sports development in the region.
Udeze, who is hosting the tournament, said the initiative goes beyond competition, noting that it provides a platform for talent discovery and regional integration through sport.
According to him, the tournament is designed to stimulate interest in basketball at the grassroots level while creating pathways for players to advance to higher levels of the game.
Fans are expected to turn out in numbers for the event, which also serves as a rallying point for stakeholders seeking to reposition basketball in the South East.
