Chairmen under the Nationwide League One (NLO) Progressive Club Chairmen Forum have called for a review of group placements and a possible shift in the 2026 league kick-off date, citing logistical challenges and fixture congestion.
In a statement issued yesterday, the forum urged its members to adopt a unified position during the forthcoming State Football Association (FA) meetings, as directed by the NLO Secretariat in its April 4 memo.
The chairmen noted that the meetings present a vital opportunity for clubs to formally present concerns affecting their operations ahead of the new season.
Top on the agenda, according to the forum, is the dissatisfaction with current group allocations, particularly among clubs placed in Groups 19, 22 and 23. The forum maintained that some of the groupings pose serious logistical and competitive disadvantages to participating teams.
It, therefore, advised affected clubs to use the State FA platforms to demand reassignment to more favourable centres, stressing that early engagement at the state level would improve the chances of redress at the national level.
The forum also raised concerns over the overlap between the NLO season and ongoing State FA Cup competitions, noting that the situation places undue strain on clubs financially and physically.
It appealed to the NLO leadership to consider adjusting the league calendar to allow clubs complete their FA Cup fixtures before the commencement of the league season.
As part of a coordinated approach, the forum recommended that all its members present written position papers during their respective State FA meetings, outlining the collective concerns.
The statement further urged State FAs to transmit the resolutions to the NLO Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Olushola Ogunnowo, and the league’s executive board for prompt consideration.
The forum reiterated the need for unity among stakeholders, expressing optimism that a collective approach would ensure a fair and sustainable 2026 season.
