Enugu TUC Chair Hails NANPF Over Players’ Welfare Commitment

The Enugu State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (T.U.C) Comrade Ben Asogwa has expressed applauded the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF) on their resolve and commitment towards improving the welfare, fortunes and entire  well being of Nigerian Players for greater excellence.

 

He made this known to newsmen in Enugu on 13/8/2025 during a courtesy visit by the members of  NANPF Enugu State chapter.

 

Asogwa said, “It’s high time we begin to pay attention to players welfare and wellbeing. I thank the Nigeria Players Union for standing tall on this and the TUC will not leave any stone unturned in helping to achieve laudable objectives of NANPF.”

 

According to him “there are many issues around poor handling of these players ranging from non compliance of players contractual terms ,non payment of bonuses, match allowances and other incentives due to players.

 

“Today, you can see that players are owed ,abandoned when they are sick and so many ill treatment against them because they cant talk but we now have NANPF in affiliation with T.U.C to make things work out.

 

“These players commit the whole of their productive age and time to clubs and are abandoned to become a liability to themselves and the entire society.

 

“We shall work with NANPF for a move towards a life changing packages that will sustain players even when they are no longer active.

 

“Most of them when they finish playing and because of how they are poorly handled without adequate welfare scheme during their active days ,they appear worn out and living pitiable kind of life.This is not good ,we have to ensure that players welfare ,well being are prioritized.”

 

Also speaking during the event, the Enugu state Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Gideon Iwueke thanked the players union with their laudable approaches and measures aimed at ensuring that players welfare and well being are improved in order to make them to remain  continually productive even after their playing  period.

 

He assured of SWAN effective partnership to enhance mobilizations of relevant stakeholders and helping to hold relevant stakeholders accountable in terms of players welfare and general wellbeing.

 

The Chairman of NANPF, Enugu state, Coach Ebere Amaraizu thanked all for identifying with National Association of Nigerian Professional Players in relation to her laudable framework towards championing better welfare scheme and life changing and sustainable programme to aid players even when they are no longer active and maintained that arrangement has been concluded to hold stakeholders workshop and seminar to help all to same page and enhancing participation.
