The Nigerian football family is in deep mourning following the passing of one of its forgotten heroes, Mr. Juld Demegu, popularly known in his glorious playing days as “Military.”
The former Trojan FC and Spartans of Owerri fullback, celebrated for his unmatched defensive steel and legendary rigidity on the field, lost the ultimate battle of life on Sunday in his hometown of Eziala Ogwu, Nguruwenkwo Autonomous Community, Aboh Mbaise LGA,
Imo State.
In his prime, “Military” was a household name—a fearless defender who gave his all for club and state, earning the admiration of fans and the respect of opponents. His crunching tackles and commanding presence made him the backbone of every team he graced.
Yet, like many heroes of his era, Demegu’s story in retirement became one of pain and neglect. When illness struck and he needed help the most, the system he served with pride turned a blind eye. Friends and admirers watched helplessly as appeals for assistance were met with deafening silence from those in positions of power.
Now, he is gone—another star extinguished too soon, leaving behind memories of his brilliance and haunting questions about how we treat our sporting legends.

As the football world mourns, one truth remains clear: we must not wait until our heroes are gone to give them the support they deserve.
