As part of efforts to deepen community cohesion and promote social inclusion, the Rangers International Football Club Foundation (RIFC Foundation) has announced a special community football match slated for 17th July 2025 at the Nigeria Breweries PLC Football Pitch, Ama, near 9th Mile Corner, Enugu State.
The match will feature a team of Ex-Rangers International FC legends engaging the Nigeria Breweries PLC Staff Team in a friendly showdown aimed at fostering unity and mental well-being among the people.
Chairman of the RIFC Foundation, Coach Ebere Amaraizu, made this known while speaking to sports journalists about the objectives of the event and its broader impact on society. He described the initiative as part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to “promoting community cohesion, resilience, integration, and social inclusion for sustainable development, particularly across South East communities.”
According to Coach Amaraizu, the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s Sports4Development strategy, which also emphasizes health promotion and mental well-being through physical activities and community engagement.
This community football match is more than just a game,” Coach Amaraizu said. “It’s a platform for psychosocial engagement, where both teams and participants will interact and gain valuable insights on prioritizing mental health for overall well-being.”
The event will also serve as a tribute to the late Nigerian football icon and former Rangers legend, Chairman Christian Chukwu (MFR), who passed away earlier this year. A large number of Ex-Rangers legends — including those who starred for Nigeria’s national team, played in European clubs, and made waves in the Nigerian domestic league — are expected to don their boots once more to honour their former teammate.
The community football match is being facilitated in partnership with Nigeria Breweries PLC, Silver Communications, Campus Technology Life Initiative (CTLI), and other key stakeholders.
With a blend of football, mental health advocacy, and legacy celebration, the event promises to leave a lasting impact on both the pitch and the community.
