The Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr. Musa Kida, was among the high-profile personalities honoured at the prestigious Wakawaka Sports Award held over the weekend at the elegant City Cruz Hotel in Owerri, Imo State.
Engr. Kida, who was unavoidably absent due to official engagements, was represented by the Chairman of the Imo State Basketball Association, Mr. Kelechi Anosike, who received the award on his behalf. The award recognized Kida’s outstanding and sustained contributions to the development of basketball in Nigeria. Despite a rocky start to his second term as NBBF President—marked by administrative turbulence and a suspension by FIBA—Kida successfully led the federation out of crisis and into a new era of stability and growth.
Now serving as NNPC Chairman, Kida has continued to influence national development through both energy leadership and sports advancement. Under his stewardship, the basketball federation has experienced a revival, with renewed grassroots initiatives, improved governance, and stronger international representation. The Wakawaka Sports Award is a fitting tribute to a leader whose vision, resilience, and commitment have positively shaped both the sports and energy sectors in Nigeria.
