Campos FC Receives Backing from Imo Club Owners Amid Match-Fixing Allegations

By Silvernews

The Imo Football Club Owners Association has officially appealed to the leadership of Nigeria’s Nationwide League One (NLO) on behalf of Campos FC, a grassroots club recently sanctioned over allegations of match-fixing.

In a letter addressed to the NLO chairman, the association expressed deep concern over the disciplinary measures meted out to Campos FC and called for a reconsideration of the sanctions. The club owners emphasized their commitment to integrity and fair play, while also acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations.

“While we understand the need to uphold the standards of the league, we passionately appeal for leniency,” the letter stated. “Campos FC is a young and growing club making tangible contributions to talent development and community engagement in Imo State.”

Describing the incident as regrettable but not reflective of the club’s values, the association urged the league to temper justice with mercy, and to allow Campos FC to continue participating in the ongoing season.

The appeal was signed by Chief Kachi Atufule (Malick), Chairman of the Imo Club Owners Association, and Bro Kingsley Azodo, Secretary.

The NLO has yet to issue an official response to the plea.
