Enugu, Nigeria – Tragedy struck at the Enugu Centre of the ongoing Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) Play-Offs as Ekenna Nnado, Team Manager of Heartland Fedders FC, suffered a partial stroke while on official duty.
Nnado, the son of legendary Nigerian coach Isaac Nnado, is a former professional footballer who featured for top-tier clubs including Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC), Rangers International, and Eagle Cement. He also played alongside Nigerian football icon Nwankwo Kanu before his promising career was cut short by injury.
The incident occurred during the play-offs, prompting immediate medical attention. Nnado was rushed to JohnBone Hospital in Enugu, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Thanks to the swift intervention of the Commissioner for Sports, Hon Obinna Onyeocha who instructed team officials at Akwa where the team is playing their game to ensure he received urgent care, and the expertise of the hospital’s Medical Director, Nnado’s condition is now reported to be stabilizing. He has since been transferred to Owerri for continued recovery.
The football community has expressed deep concern and appreciation for the quick response that may have prevented a more severe outcome. Well-wishers continue to pray for his full recovery.
Heartland Fedders FC, though shaken by the incident, remain focused as they press on in the NLO Play-Offs, rallying behind their beloved team manager.
