The Badagry Divisional Football Association (BDFA) joins the entire Badagry Kingdom and well-wishers across the globe in celebrating a monumental figure in Nigerian history and traditional leadership — Oba Claudius Dosa Akran, Aholu Jiwa II of Jegba, the Akran of Badagry, as he marks 48 glorious years on the throne.
A true statesman and revered monarch, Oba Akran is not only a pillar of cultural heritage but a distinguished political figure whose influence has transcended borders, reaching neighboring West African countries like the Republic of Benin, Togo, and even stretching to the Aflao-Lomé border in Ghana.
Born in 1899 into the respected Kopon family, Oba Akran was destined for leadership. His academic journey took him through St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, and later, the prestigious King’s College, Lagos. His early career saw him join the Post and Telegraph department in 1926, where he served diligently until 1947.
His journey into leadership began in earnest following the passing of his father. By 1950, he was appointed as the head of the Jegba quarters and ascended the throne as Aholu Jiwa II, the Akran of Badagry.
Beyond tradition, Oba Akran made his mark in politics. He represented Badagry in the Western Region Parliament in 1951 under the Action Group and held critical regional ministerial positions — including Minister of Local Government and Economic Planning (1952) and later Minister of Finance (1962–1966).
A champion of development, Oba Akran’s legacy includes the founding of Badagry Grammar School in 1955 — the first secondary school in the region — and the facilitation of major infrastructure projects including telecommunication, electrification, and road development.
As a supporter of youth and sports development, the BDFA is proud to honor a monarch who has laid the foundation for growth, unity, and empowerment through both governance and tradition.
