Ngor Okpala, Imo State—The Dr. Matthew Chima Amadi Football Competition is poised to provide a platform for youth empowerment and talent discovery in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area and across Imo State. The 2024 edition, involving all 29 communities in Ngor Okpala, aims to uncover hidden football talents while fostering unity among youths in the region.
Speaking ahead of the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Kampla Ekechi, highlighted how the competition aligns with Dr. Amadi’s vision for the development of Imo State. According to Mr. Ekechi, the primary objective is to identify and nurture untapped football talent that can contribute significantly to both state and national sports development agendas.
“Dr. Amadi strongly believes in human capital development, which is why he has committed significant resources to this initiative. It is not just about football; it is about creating opportunities for our youth to excel and be recognized,” Mr. Ekechi remarked.
Reports from Silver News indicate that Dr. Amadi, a staunch advocate for community development, has allocated over ₦200 million to support the competition and other festive activities as part of the 2024 Christmas celebrations. This initiative underscores his dedication to fostering growth and improving the livelihood of the people of Ngor Okpala.
The tournament will kick off at Comprehensive Secondary School, Umuokene, with the first match scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM. The opening match, between Okpala Umuekwune and Uzuzu Autonomous Community, promises to be a grand spectacle as communities rally to support their teams and showcase their skills on the field.
Organizers have emphasized that the competition is not solely about sports but also serves as a platform to inspire hope and confidence in the younger generation. The event is expected to attract scouts, sports enthusiasts, and dignitaries, adding prestige to the local sports scene.
