Amiyi Academy FC Thrash IMSU FC in First Anniversary Match

Amiyi Academy FC, Umuaka, marked its one-year anniversary in emphatic fashion on Sunday, April 5, 2026, with a resounding 5–0 victory over IMSU FC, Owerri, in a novelty football match held at Central School, Umuaka.

The anniversary encounter, attended by a host of dignitaries and football stakeholders, lived up to expectations as the youthful Amiyi side showcased dominance, skill, and cohesion against their visitors, reports www.silvernews.com.ng.

Emmanuel Ugochukwu Okoro opened the floodgates with the first goal, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair. Durugbor Mmesoma doubled the lead before halftime, ensuring Amiyi Academy FC went into the break with a comfortable 2–0 advantage.
On resumption of the second half, Amiyi maintained their attacking momentum. Ikwugbado Lucky extended the lead with the third goal, while Mmesoma grabbed his second of the day to make it 4–0. David Irobi capped an outstanding performance with the fifth goal, sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts.

The match formed the highlight of activities lined up to celebrate the academy’s one-year milestone, reflecting its steady growth and commitment to grassroots football development.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Executive Chairman of Njaba Local Government Area, Hon. Vitalis Ugochukwu Obi, and a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Ozioma Ebonine. Traditional rulers, including HRM Eze Barr. Francis O. Ahanotu and HRM Eze Justin Ezeala, also graced the occasion, adding cultural prestige to the celebration.

Chief Host, Chief Chika Duru, alongside notable personalities such as Barr. Luke Ukonu, Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, Chairman of the Imo State Football Association, and Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Isaac Mbika(President Association of Ex Iwuanyanwu Nationale footballers worldwide and FIFA License Agent)were in attendance to witness the impressive display.

In their remarks, the Imo State FA Chairman, Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, and his Anambra State counterpart, Chikelue Iloenyosi, called on well-meaning individuals in the community to support the rebuilding and upgrading of sports facilities in the area.

They emphasized the importance of adequate infrastructure in nurturing young talents and pledged their commitment to assisting in the continued development of Amiyi Academy FC.
