The Eziala Ogwu community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State held its maiden global convention, tagged Eziala Ogwu Convention 2025 (EOC’25), as its indigenes at home and in the diaspora converged to promote unity, peace and sustainable development.
The convention, which took place on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Ogbogbara Amaogbom Village Square attracted a large turnout of community members and stakeholders who reaffirmed their commitment to the collective growth of the ancestral community.
Sponsored by the Eziala Ogwu Family Union in the United States and Canada, led by Mr. Chimezie Nwishi and represented by Engr. Alpho Ibe, the event featured cultural performances, goodwill messages and deliberations focused on strengthening their development institutions and fostering peaceful coexistence.
A major highlight were cash donations by illustrious sons and daughters of the community.
Spiritual exhortations were delivered by Very Rev. Fr. (Dr) Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku, Rev. Fr. Uche Nwankwo, Fr Patrick Nwachukwu_Udoku they called on community members to uphold unity, peace and shared responsibility as the foundation for sustainable development.
Cultural displays added colour to the occasion, with the debut performance of the women’s dance group, Agbachaa-Ekurunwa. The Eziala Ogwu Association, Lagos, sponsors of the troupe, also supported education by donating exercise books to students through the EDO.
In recognition of their outstanding services to the community, the Eziala Ogwu Family Union in North America presented plaques of honour to AVM Uche Nwagwu (rtd) and Rev. Fr. (Dr) Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku for their contributions to the development of Eziala Ogwu.
Participants described the convention as a landmark event that strengthened communal ties, reviewed progress made and set a clear agenda for future development initiatives.
Dignitaries at the event included High Chief Nazzy Njoku, who coordinated the convention; Mr. Paul Opara; High Chief Roma Chikwendu – PG of Ngurunwekwo; Engr. Alpho Ibe; Nze Ugochukwu Udoku – the Aladimma Chairman and Obinna Onyenemerem, – the Town Union Chairman. Others included Prof. J.O.J. Nwachukwu Agbada, Barr. J.G. Nzeh, Chidi Nwokeagbara (Onovo), Mr. Alpho Nnodim, Dr. Kelechi Opara, Engr. Tony Ahaotu, Engr. Charles-Magnus Nwachukwu, Mr. Kennedy Onwunali – Executive Secretary of Nigeria Professional Footballers Union, Imo State.
