The National Youth Games has exploded into action in Asaba—and Imo State has marched in with power, pride, and a record 516-man squad. From 398 fired-up athletes to 118 coaches and officials, the Eastern Heartland is rolling heavy and aiming for nothing less than domination.
Imo isn’t just showing up—they’re showing strength. With 33 sports on lock and medal favorites in weightlifting, athletics, swimming, scrabble, karate, kickboxing, hockey, darts, and abula, the state has the firepower to shake the table. Their zonal eliminations proved it too, bagging 9 of 14 slots in team events.
Sports Commissioner, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, oozed confidence before the team’s departure. Backed by Governor Hope Uzodimma, he declared: “Our athletes are motivated, screened, and ready. Preparation is complete—we’re in Asaba to win, not to participate.”
The Games run from August 26 to September 6, and the stage is set. For Team Imo, it’s simple—turn sweat into medals, rewrite the record books, and make the Eastern Heartland roar. Asaba, beware: Imo has landed, and they mean business.
