The Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, now Director General of the National Institute for Sports, NIS, has been appointed as “Patron” of the Stephen Keshi Football and Vocational Training Center SKFVTC Obazuwa, Ovia North East Local Government Council area Edo State.
The letter conveying the DG’s appointment presented to him by the Secretary of the board of the SKFVTC and Chairman of the of the Organising Committee of the Annual national Stephen Keshi under 17 football tournament, Austin Popo and Kevin Etemike, on behalf of the chairman of the board Dr Louis Brown Ogbeifun and other members of the board, in his office yesterday 21st July 2025 in Lagos, signify a major turning point and an official seal of Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu long standing, commitment, contributions and support for the pursuit and realization of the SKFVTC objectives as a multi functional 9.3 hectares community hub integrating world class sporting, education, vocational, recreational and residential facilities as a most veritable platform to immortalize the name and legacies of former super eagles captain and coach, late Stephen Keshi, as well as the discovering and development of young talented athletes within and outside Nigeria
The SKFVTC also used the opportunity to congratulate Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu on his new appointment as DG of the NIS ”

On his appointment as “Patron” the SKFVTC took note that ” his excellency has always been a partner of SKFVTC, dating back to your days as Deputy Governor of Edo State. You have demonstrated unequalled and unconfined passion and support for the SKFVTC Vision”
The Certificate of” Patron” shall be presented to Philip Shaibu during the courtesy visit by the SKFVTC board to His excellency as soon as possible . The SKFVTC have thus far organized five edition of the Stephen Keshi annual memorial lecture and 6 editions of the annual Stephen Keshi national under 17 football tournaments
