It was a moment of magic from Mitchell Alozie, the Mbaise-born Super Falcons star, as her decisive goal sent Nigeria past a stubborn South African side to book her place in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final (WAFCON).
In a tense secord half Alozie scored in the 90th minute her effort against the Banyana Banyana goalkeeper rooted her to the spot. The goal sparked wild celebrations across the stadium and in her hometown in Imo State, where locals stayed glued to their screens.
“This victory means everything to us. We knew what was at stake and I’m proud to have contributed to the team’s success,” Alozie said, still beaming after the final whistle.
The Super Falcons now march confidently into the final as they aim to reclaim their crown and win the title for the tent time.
