Former Nigerian football speed star, Lucky Sunday Nkeki, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Agbor, Nkeki credited his decision to the leadership and support of the NDDC Chairman, Hon. Chiedu Ebie.
He expressed gratitude to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the opportunities it gave him during his time with the party, stating that he had done his best and is now ready to move on.
In a heartfelt reflection on his football career, Coach Lucky recounted how he began earning a salary as a footballer as early as 1986 while still in Class 3 in secondary school. His professional journey started with Sun Insurance FC in Lagos, followed by stints at M & G, Arab Bank, and ACB FC, where he played under Coach Gideon Njokwu. His career later took him to Vasco Da Gama in Enugu under Coach David Adiele, and then to Premier Breweries, VIP FC, and Railway FC in Lagos. In 1996, he ventured abroad to play for South Africa’s Bidvest, a first-division club, before returning to Nigeria to play for—and eventually captain—BCC Lions of Gboko under the late Coach Sebastian Brodericks Imasuen.
Following his retirement from professional football, Coach Lucky transitioned into coaching, starting in Lagos before returning to Delta State to contribute to grassroots football development. Known for his dedication to nurturing young talent and promoting the game locally, his move into active politics marks a new chapter in his journey of service and leadership.
He also praised Chief Godwin Ogadi for investing personal resources into Delta State and dismissed critics who labeled him as poor. Nkeki highlighted his own achievements, stating that he never begged for help and received significant support from Hon. Ebie in building his home.
Nkeki emphasized that Delta State belongs to everyone—not just a single family—and expressed confidence that the APC will win the 2027 elections in the state.
