Imo State athletes delivered an inspiring performance at the ongoing NDDC Sports Festival on April 4, 2025, with several podium finishes across multiple disciplines.

In Basketball (Male), the Imo team clinched victory over Edo State in a closely contested match, finishing 40–32.

Volleyball (Female) saw another win for Imo, as they edged out Abia State 2–1 in an intense game. However, in the Volleyball (Male) category, Imo fell short against Ondo State, with a straight-set loss of 0–2.

In Handball (Male), Imo State faced a tough Ondo side and was defeated 17–22.

Football (Female) ended in a dramatic 1–1 draw between Imo and Rivers State, keeping hopes alive for both sides in the competition.

The boxing arena saw Imo secure a Bronze medal in the Female Boxing category.

In the aquatic events, Imo State struck Gold in the Men’s 900m Backstroke Swimming, marking a high point in the day’s events.

The Para Athletics division brought in several medals for Imo:

Silver in Women’s Shot Put by Okoro Julian

Bronze in the Wheelchair Race by Onyebuchi Chioma

Bronze in Shot Put F57 by Amaechi Ukagba

Bronze in the Wheelchair Race T53/54 by Emmanuel Idimogu

In Traditional Sports, Imo secured a Bronze medal, showcasing the state’s cultural strength and versatility.

Lastly, in Tennis, Imo added another Bronze medal to their growing tally.

With continued determination and spirited performances, Team Imo is proving to be a strong contender at this year’s festival.
