Future Academy Football club of Ozara are set to participate in the 16th edition of the YSFON Mock champions league tournament as Real Madrid of Spain, the statesman newspaper sports desk can exclusively report.
The Oru West local government based club will be making their debut at the prestigious age long tournament which is at it’s 16th edition this year in Imo state and will be competing against 9 other selected prominent National league one clubs from various local government areas in Imo state.
Clubs from Owerri Municipal, Owerri west, Mbaitoli, Ikeduru, Mbaise, Orlu, and so on, but not forgetting the state team (Heartland feeders team) and of cause some wild cards.
Registration for the tournament closes on the 8th of October while draw will hold on the 10th of October. Kick off date has been scheduled for the 13th of October.
10 teams which has been selected for the tournament will be representing top European clubs as they compete for the ultimate cash prize at the Old township stadium Tetlow road Owerri.
In a brief interview with the Head coach of Future Academy FC of Ozara, Coach Uchenna Marvelous Ewurum shared optimism of his side’s readiness to emerge victorious regardless of the fact that the Ozara based side is making their debut in the competition.
“I’m delighted that we are making our debut in this competition and believe me, we are not going to make up the numbers, we are going out there to compete and make a statement.
The boys are ready and motivated to play. This is the first time a team from Oru is taking part in this competition and we want to prove to the world that we have talent.
We are calling on well meaning Ozarians to throw their weight behind us and give us the much needed support.
We have so many programs lined up for this team to help expose the raw talents this club is blessed with. I’m certain we will go places” Ewurum concluded.
The Youths Sports federation of Nigeria ( YSFON) mock champions league is been sponsored by Chief Johnny Opara ( Johnny Be Good ) and this year 2024 will mark it’s 16th edition. Fr Eburuajah FC of Orlu won the 15th edition in 2023 as Manchester United while CENN FC of Mbaise won the 14th edition in 2022 as Liverpool.
Participating clubs will pick one of their favorite UEFA champions league clubs and represent them at the tournament.
The Ozara side will be representing Real Madrid of spain in this year’s campaign.
