Abandoned former Nigerian Tennis player and coach, James Anukam has cried out for help from well-meaning Nigerians over blindness that has caused untold hardships to his family, Silvernews.com.ng reports.
Anukam, who produced great Tennis players such as Uche Oparaoji said the current situation in the country, coupled with his blindness has affected his family as his children are now school-drop-outs.
The former coach in the Imo State Sports Council, who decried that he has not received any form of assistance from the federation including the Ministry of Youth and Sports gave out his number for help: 08033288965 and 08030862379.
His words: “I have been suffering and my kids are no longer going to school due to financial problems. The Nigerian economic situation has been disturbing my family. There is nothing to eat.
“I want Imolites and Nigerians in general to help let me solve this problem. I am blind. This happened when I was active in Sports when my eyes was hit by ball that affected my sight and that was when I started having issues. I want people to come to my rescue and help, let me solve this problem.
“As a young Tennis athlete, I played with David Imonite, Felix, sodiq Abudulai and so many of them whom I may not remember. It was a whole lot of names. Due to the fact I had this issue, I may not remember all the names for now.
“The national champions that I produced like Nigerian number one now, Uche Oparaoji, Christy Agubom, the former Nigerian female number one, Christy Mbadiwe, Oluchi Ozurumba and so many athletes who have travelled outside and now representing the country. I played for Nigeria in David’s Cup and national competitions.
“I have not received any assistance from the federation including the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“I have been to various hospitals both in Lagos and Imo States but they are saying it is glaucoma and cataract, that is two things in one.
