The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions will storm Mbaise on fact-finding mission regarding the issue of electricity blackout, extortion and total neglect of the area, Silvernews.com.ng reports.
This was following the petition by M. C. Chambers on behalf of the people of Mbaise against Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, and the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission over the perennial blackout in Mbaise.
During the hearing on Tuesday in Abuja, Barr. Malachy Nwaekpe, who was the petitioner told the committee that the transmission station in Aboh Mbaise has not been fully completed since the prjwct started in 2009.
He decried that EEDC are now punishing the people of Mbaise because of the petition against them at the National Assembly.
On their part, Managing Director of EEDC, Mr. Praveen Chorghade accused the people of Mbaise for delaying the process of restoring power adding that EEDC is only serving the people according to its capacity.
Conclusively, the Committee resolve to visit the Mbaise District as eyewitness, to verify the level of work at the transmission station, and to also know the level EEDC has gone in restoring power supply in the communities.
According to the committee chairman, Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba; “The Committee will be going on site inspection to Mbaise District.”
He thanked everyone for attending the hearing and promised to send across the exact date of the visitation.
Present at the hearing were many sons and daughters of Mbaise, who came from various locations across Nigeria to witness the case.
They sincerely thanked the Rt. Hon. Etaba led Committee for giving listening ears to the good people of Mbaise.
“We are only calling for the completion of the transmission station in Mbaise, and total restoration of power supply in every Mbaise community. We cannot be paying for estimated bill to EEDC, when there is no electricity suppy in our communities”, they stated.
