The captain of Arsenal country club Obinze in Imo State, Commodore Ogechi Osuagwu (rtd) has commended Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State for reviving the abandoned Oguta Lake Golf Course.
Speaking with Wakawaka Sports Extra, Osuagwu noted that the state government in collaboration with the Nigeria Navy are putting in efforts to revive the facilities at Oguta Motel and Golf Course.
He regretted the inability of previous administrations to revive the Motel and Golf Course, which would boost tourism and create employment for the youths of the state.
“Oguta used to be one of the best golf courses in south of the Niger and it went down. Just recently in 2021, Governor Hope Uzodinma in collaboration with the Navy decided to take it up for us to have a functional place. It was handed over to the Navy.
“It’s now at a level we can start playing. Holes 1,2,3,4 and 5 are getting set now. We believe that before the week runs out, holes 1 and 2 will be ready for anybody who wants to play.
“We are working tirelessly to get the place done. The commodore of the Navy is doing so well to make sure the golf course is what the place should be. The governor is a philanthropist in golf. He has been doing so well for us in Arsenal and will also do same for us in Oguta.
“The few last regimes never had interest in the game. The good thing now is that the governor arranged for the Navy base to be brought to Oguta. Arrangements for Navy base started since 1989 and it came pass now that Governor Hope Uzodinma has brought it into light. We are pleading to all golfers so that we can have Oguta Golf course back to life.”
