..targets continental ticket with Heartland FC

The Commissioner for Sports in Imo State, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo has said two-gold medalist in the swimming category at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games, Destiny Ikechukwu and others will be hosted by the state government.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba, Okoronkwo announced that Governor Hope Uzodinma is ever-ready to welcome the state contingents at the games noting that the governor has done it before and would do it again.

“The young lad who won gold in swimming is an Imo son and if His Excellency can welcome Super Falcons from all other states in Imo, of course what do you think that will happen to the son of the soil. The boy is ready for a handshake with His Excellency once he gets back home.”

Wakawaka Sports Extra reports that the commissioner declared the readiness of the state to host any sporting events adding that the state is developed to compete with any state.

“It’s very important to note that we have been hosting a lot of competitions. The sporting facilities in Imo are so developed and we can compete with any state. Imo is ready to host any competition.”

Speaking further on Heartland FC, who will get their return to the top-flight underway against Lobi Stars this weekend, the commissioner said the team has targeted a continental ticket.

“Heartland FC collected all the medals during the Super 8 and went unbeaten 16 matches, qualifying them to get to NPFL. We will shock NPFL.

“We have a target to get to the continental. Heartland Queens are doing well and every aspect of Sports in Imo since the coming of His Excellency, has received great boost.”
