…solicits support from Tennis lovers, enthusiasts

Fast-rising Nigerian Tennis sensation, Uchenna Oparaoji, has been rated high as the future of the game in Nigeria, Africa and the world.

Speaking with Wakawaka Sports Extra, a retired Director in the Imo State Civil Service Commission and Assistant Chairman, Imo State Tennis Association, Israel Osigwe, noted that Oparaoji is a player to watch in the future.

Osigwe, who doubles as President of Standard Tennis Development Club, Owerri described the Tennis star who won all the available laurels at the National Sports Festival in Delta State, as a committed and industrious player who is eager to learn under the tutelage of Coach James Anukam.

“It’s a very lovely and interesting development because Uchenna Oparaoji we know at the age of seven when he came in to this club and started playing under James Anukam.

“He was a good boy, very humble, very industrious and committed. We have always hoped that he will indeed in future be the light for other young men that have been lackadaisical in their attitude to the game of tennis.

“We are really happy that he has risen to this height. We knew that he has the charisma, interest and above all when a young man settled himself on a path of success, he must be humble, loyal and these qualities are the qualities in him. We are very very pleased that he has risen to this height.” He said.

While calling on Tennis enthusiasts and lovers to support Oparaoji, he said plans are underway for a homecoming to spearhead his growth into the global stage.

The Imo-born Tennis star and number one Tennis player in the country was likened to Rafael Nadal due to his speed and energy by the Tennis administrator.

“It’s a thing we are looking forward to. The Tennis Association pocket is not buoyant but as far as he remains with most of our members who are Tennis enthusiasts, they are very desirous to see that this
young man could move ahead to conquer the world.

“Because his likes are the ones we have seen conquering the world. The likes of Nadal, Federa started like him and limitation of Africa system has been our problem but we believe with support from well-meaning Tennis enthusiasts, lovers and players at both club levels and other areas we could make it possible.

“That’s why we are arranging for a homecoming which will bring in other Tennis lovers and showcase this young man. We believe by so doing, people may look at him and see the light he is presenting and support him. We are very hopeful that will come up.

“You know Rafael Nadal is a left-handed player and if you look at his speed and energy you can liken him to Nadal. We are looking at him as future Rafael Nadal.” He concluded.
