The Eze Cletus and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji Memorial Educational Foundation (ECUDOMEF), recently held her annual scholarship award ceremony, at the St. Jude Catholic Church Amuzi, Ahiazu-Mbaise, during which the best performing eight (8) students were unveiled. The awards were unveiled by the Founder & Convener, US-based Professor Eddie Oparaoji and the Board Chairman, former Nigeria’s, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Education, Her Excellency Professor Viola Onwuliri. They are the first son and daughter of their Royal Highnesses, late Eze Cletus and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji. The award which is worth fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) each is to assist the very best Amuzi students to achieve their post-secondary school academic dreams.
The successful students for 2022 are; Opara Stella Chiamaka, Anozie Kenneth Chizitere, Onyewuenyi Esther Ogechi, Nkwocha Precious, Ekechukwu Chinasa Jessica, Ohakwe Victoria, Ndugbu Joy, Elekelachi Chisom.
Following the presentation of the awards which took place at the Oparaoji Royal Manor, the students, accompanied by their parents or relatives, were addressed by some dignitaries in attendance including retired Major General Lincoln Ogunewe and Ambassador Darlington Ifeanyi Amaechi. They commended the students for their stellar accomplishments and counselled them to reciprocate the generosity of their benefactor and to whom much is given much is expected. They further commended Professors Eddie Oparaoji, Viola Onwuliri, all board members and others who have contributed in sustaining the legacy of the late Eze Cletus and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji for almost three decades.
The ECUDOMEF Scholarship was founded in 1990, initially as Amuzi Scholarship Scheme, which then changed In 1997, to ECUDOMEF, following the death of their Royal Highnesses, Eze Cletus Oparaoji and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji. It has since remained a platform for educational advancement and human capital development, through award of scholarships to deserving students,
providing medical outreach and poverty alleviation programs. Over 500 Amuzi students have received the ECUDOMEF Scholarship since inception and most have gone on to become very valuable and productive members of Amuzi community, and the society at large. In addition, over 15,000 patients have been counseled and/or treated for various health challenges and multi-millions of naira expended to alleviate poverty among indigent orphans, widows and other underprivileged members of the community.
Other board members of the ECUDOMEF who were responsible for conducting the 2022 scholarship program include Dr Ignatius Onyeocha of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO}, the Amuzi St Jude’s Catholic Parish Catechist, Mr. Isaac Izunwanne and Mrs. Gertrude Opara. We wish to acknowledge and appreciate Drs Emeka Oparaoji and Chinwe Okafor who who helped sponsor the ECUDOMEF 2022.
