The Imo 2024 governorship hopeful of the Labour Party (LP) Attorney Charlse Chibuike Onyirimba has urged the people of Okigwe zone to support a candidate that has track record of credibility and shun sentiment.
He gave this charge recently when hosted a group of Journalists under the aegis of Mbano Journalists Association (MJA) in his Owerri residence.
Speaking further, he lamented that Okigwe zone has suffered tremendously in the hands of bad leadership and representative, adding that the zone would not make the mistake of the past by throwing support to people with bad antecedents unless the person is at the verge of positive change.
Onyirimba pointed out that credibility should be the focal point in choosing whom to support from the Imo North extraction irrespective of the fact that you are from the same family, religion, village or town.
He said: ” We have suffered enough in Okigwe zone. Okigwe zone has suffered tremendously and we cannot just support because you are from Okigwe zone. We cannot just throw support because you are an Okigwe son”.
“If you are an Okigwe son and you are not trying for the zone, we must be bold enough to say your “antecedents in Okigwe is bad”
While reaffirming his intention to govern the state in 2024 to Journalists, he caution them giving a blanket support until the person’s direction is known to be in tandem with the conscience of the people.
The US trained Attorney described the media as the conscience of the people. According to him, “the media is the conscience of the people. Stand on the truth at all times and must all times inform the people legitimately and that information must be accurate”
Dr. Charlse Onyirimba described his upbringing as a preparatory stage for leadership. He said: “I am a village man. I am a total village boy because I was bread and buttered from the village because my father was a school headmaster”. “As a village boy, i am totally aware of issues with the villages”.
“I went to Madona high School. In those days, we used to trek about 12 or 13 miles from my village to school. I usually left my house around 4:30am in order to meet the usual school general Assembly session at 7:00am”.
“The question to leadership is not someone who wakes up one day and finds some money in his pocket and decides that now he wants to lead.
“Leadership must be in born, it must have a growth process, you must have something that you can show that will tell the people you are really committed to what you are doing. You can’t wake up overnight because you have made money. It doesn’t work that way”.
” There are three groups of people; those who want to lead because they have money, those who want to lead to seek for political power, they seek for fame and those who want to lead because they have called to serve. Leading and serving are two important things.
“You lead through example, lead by service or you lead to have fame. I, Charles Onyirimba is only seeking to serve the people of Imo State through the ballot.”
He therefore highlighted several positions held in the country and where he resides, United States of America.
