Owerri, June. 12, 2022 ( NAN) The Speaker Imo House of Assembly Mr Kennedy Ibeh has said that Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo and other past heroes contributed immensely in the sustainance and growth of democracy in Nigeria.
Ibeh disclosed this as part of his democracy day message to Nigerians in a press statement on Sunday and made available to the News Agency of Nigerian (NAN).
He said while Nigerians will continue to celebrate past heroes for their contribution, the nation should also keep faith with present day leaders for their efforts in ensuring that the country is united.
“I commend founding fathers of Nigeria democracy for their role in ensuring that democracy as a form of government takes root in Nigeria.
“I affirms belief in democracy, because it is a sure way of guaranteeing all inclusive and active participation of the people in governance with all dividends.
“The maturity and forthrightness of the leaders and aspirants of All Progressive Congress (APC), in the just concluded primaries and the peaceful disposition of the party before, during and after the exercise is a clear indication that democracy in Nigeria is growing”, he stated.
The speaker further explained that the commemoration of June, 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria, underscores the huge price Nigerians paid to return governance from the military to civilian rule.
He said the present leaders like Gov. Hope Uzodimma and others should be encouraged and given support as their leadership style have given strength to the country’s democracy.
He described Nigeria youths as major partners in our democratic ideals and urged them to keep faith in Nigerian project while contributing their quota to the development of the nation.
He regretted the spate of insecurity going on across the country and charged Imo citizens to be security conscious as security is everybody’s business.
The speaker said in the spirit of Democracy Day Celebration, i “thanked the good people of Obowo State Constituency being my immediate constituency for once gain, entrusting me with the mandate to fly APC ticket in 2023 House of Assembly election.
