Mr Paulinus Chima, a financial management expert and human resource manager has called for increased budgetary allocation to relevant government agencies to aid poverty alleviation.
Chima, a former Union Bank Deputy Manager and said this while distributing relief materials including bags of rice, sugar, noodles and vegetable oil to women of Umuibe Village, Akwakuma, Uratta, in the Owerri North Council Area of Imo on Thursday.
The Chief Executive Officer of Paulinus Agu Chima Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation said that poverty alleviation was a cardinal objective of the NGO.
Represented by coordinator of the NGO, Mr Onyewuchi Egwunwoke, he noted that increased budgetary provisions for poverty alleviation by both the federal and state governments would help alleviate the challenges of Nigerians now living below the poverty line.
He added that such a budget, when judiciously implemented, would strengthen the nation’s democracy, making it impact more on the masses and provoking stronger mass participation in governance.
” Nigeria is endowed with abundant human and material resources which if adequately harnessed and utilized would drastically eliminate hunger and poverty in the land.
” This Foundation came on board almost two decades ago with the objective of assisting the poor and down trodden in the community.
” We have offered scholarships to a number of bright but indigent students at both Primary and Post Primary School across the six villages in the community “, he said.
He however advised women in the community to organise themselves into cooperative societies for the provision of soft revolving loans for self-economic reliance.
