The inaugural edition of the Owerri Basketball Classic 2021 will shut down Owerri, Imo state capital for what promises to be the best of Basketball from top basketballers east of the Niger.
All the teams in the south east, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo the Host city and a team from Asaba have all arrived Dan Anyiam Stadium, venue of the five days Basketball Classic designed to create fun for Basketball players in the zone who have not enjoyed the opportunity of such event like their counterparts in other parts of the country and is going to be in phases with a mentorship clinic for the upcoming players and the competition proper.
The Chairman Imo State Basketball Association Mr Kelechi Anosike who spoke when the Veterans of the game in Imo State yesterday evening presented their customized wear for the game to the Commissioner for youth and sports development Hon Dan Ogu at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Basketball Court said 15 teams and over 150 players will take part in the competition with each team having a girl in their team. He said feeding and accommodation have been provided by his company Kulupan investment company Ltd who are the solo sponsors of the competition and all the 150 players and officers in the competition will be kitted by the company.
He said the platform will provide players who will become great in the future.
Mr Anosike a former Delta force player said he is organizing the competition to ensure that players from the south east enjoy the same level of development across the country.
The veterans who refurbished the Dan Anyiam Basketball Court presented a customized wear of their team to Hon Dan Ogu for his effort towards the development of the game of Basketball in the state.

Making the presentation, the Chairman Imo State veteran basketballers association Chairman Mr Paul Ekemezie said; Hon Ogu by approving the rehabilitation of the court by them have shown capacity that needs to be emulated by others in the position of authority, he said the association will collaborate with the state association in carrying out other programs for the state and appreciate the director of sports Imo state sports Commission Mr Emmanuel Metu for his support in carrying out the work at the court.
The five days Classic will dunk off this morning by the commissioner of sports Hon Dan Ogu and will be fellowed by the first game by 3pm in the afternoon.
