The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has reiterated the essence of having referee assessor in the football system in the country.
Chairman of the NFF Referees Committee, Alhaji Inuwa Rabiu ( Ahlan) made this known during the opening session of pre season seminar for Premier League Referee Assessors in Nigeria.
According to Ahlan who represented the NFF President, Mr Amaju Pinnick and declared the event opened, assessors are key to the development of match referees adding that their involvement cannot be wished away at the moment.
He expressed happiness that the list of assessors in the NPFL have done well so far to attract kudos from the federation.
The chairman of the NFF Referees Committee declared the willingness of the federation to continue to render support to the training and upgrading of the Assessors.
He revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, in conjunction with the league organisers are fine tuning processes to pay the outstanding indemnities owed match officials.
According to him, the outstanding indemnities occupy the front burner of discussions between the NFF and league organisers.
The assessors drawn from the state Councils of the Nigeria Referees Association, NRA, undergoing two days intensive classroom courses at the Chida Hotel, Abuja where FIFA and CAF Technical Instructors led by retired international referee, Callistus Chukwudi Chukwujekwu are drilling them on new technical finesse in officiating and the new laws concerning “accidental handballs”, positioning of Referees and Assistant Referees on the field of play, offside, fouls and misconduct and critical aspects of the 17 Laws of the Game.
The Assessors program will herald the medical, physical fitness tests as well as field and classroom exercises for the premier league referees beginning from November 17th, 2021.
