Orlu Recreation Club emerge 20/21 Cutix/ENIC Tennis Champions

The 20/21 edition of the Cutix/ENIC tennis championship came to a fitting end on Saturday March 20 at the Aba Sports Club with Orlu Recreation Club as Champions with a 3-2 hard fought victory over last year hosts, Owerri Standard Tennis Development Club.

by three (3) games to two (2) and lifted the twenty second edition of the ENIC (East of the Niger Inter Club) Tennis League 2020/2021.

Sixteen tennis clubs across the South East and South South part of the country competed for tournament which came to a fitting close with the grand finale featuring a Super Four (4) fixture at the famous Aba Sports Club.

The event came to a climax reminiscent of the Calabar 2018 showpiece where it took the final game of the doubles to determine the eventual winner of the tournament.

After his decoration as the Grand Patron of the ENIC League alongside other deserving individuals, the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by his former commissioner for transport, Hon Godswill Uche Opara, said the Abia State government will henceforth support the league as it’s contribution towards sports development in the region.

Newly installed Patron of Enic, Amb. Okwudili Nwosu who was decorated alongside the Governor, also said Cutix plc who had supported ENIC for 20 years, will keep supporting the League as long as it lasts “because Cutix Cable believes in the unity of the people through providing them with the best quality electric cables in the market today”.

The CEO of CUTIX, Mrs.Ijeoma Oduonye expressed her gratitude to the President of the host club, Aba Sports Club, Chief Jerry Kalu for hosting a ‘befitting tournament’ and said that the company will partner with the Abia State government in the development of the state.

A foundation member of the league and an ENIC trustee, Sir Emeka Azie said the reason for founding the league was to make tennis competition lucrative in the country and urged all the clubs in the region to get registered for the next edition of the tournament.

Enic Chairman, Dr Augustine Uzodike expressed gratitude to the host club and all the clubs that took part in the competition and expressed belief that the future holds a lot for the league.

Dr Kachi Nwoga whose idea brought about the ‘Enic League Super4 extravaganza’ said the league has contributed to sports tourism development of every host city in the last four years and helped in the upgrading of facilities for the clubs.
