he National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Deacon Chris Isiguzo has commiserated with members of the Benue Council on the death of their Chairman, Comrade Victoria Asher.
In a release from the NUJ Assistant National Secretary, Midat Joseph, the National President has directed all Councils and members to embark on three days mourning from 1st February 2021 and to suspend all union activities within the period.
“The National President of the NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo has declared a three day national mourning, starting from Monday, 1st, February 2021 in honour of the deceased. State Councils are advised to suspend all activities within the period in honour of Comrade Victoria Asher”,
“While mourning the passing away of our dear colleague, we pray for God to comfort her family, the media community as well as the Benue State Council”, the release stated.
In a related development, the NUJ Imo State Council has condoled with the NUJ, Benue State Council over the unfortunate and sudden death of its Chairman, Comrade Victoria Asher.
According to a release signed by Chris Akaraonye and Juliet Dim, Chairman and Secretary respectively, Imo Council prayed God to grant her soul eternal rest and give the family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the loss.
“We also use this medium to console the NUJ Zone D, the National Executive Council and the National Working Committee over the death of their member, as we also pray that such unfortunate news will never be part of our history again”, the release read.
The late Benue State Council Chairman, Mrs Victoria Asher, reportedly died at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, on 30th January 2021 due to complications arising from child birth.
