Enugu Sports Club and Uyo Club recorded impressive victories in the East of the Niger Inter-Club Tennis League (ENIC), defeating Oguta Recreation Club and Safari Recreation Club respectively, while the contest between Nnewi Sports Club and Port Harcourt Club remained unresolved due to fading light.
Enugu Sports Club produced a dominant performance to defeat Oguta Recreation Club 5–0, underlining their strength in the inter-club competition.
Uyo Club equally enjoyed a convincing outing, sweeping aside Safari Recreation Club by the same 5–0 margin to register a comprehensive victory.
However, the encounter between Nnewi Sports Club and Port Harcourt Club proved more competitive, with both teams tied at 2–2 as the contest continued.
The veterans’ doubles match between the two clubs is scheduled to be concluded on Sunday morning, with the outcome expected to determine the final result of the tie.
Meanwhile, Port Harcourt Club holds the advantage in another doubles encounter, having won the first set 6–2 and established a 4–2 lead in the second set before play was suspended because of bad light.
The match is expected to resume on Sunday morning, giving both sides another opportunity to settle the contest on the court.
The latest results highlight the competitive spirit of the East of the Niger Inter-Club Tennis League, which brings participating clubs together to test their strength, promote camaraderie and strengthen the development of lawn tennis through inter-club competition.
With some matches still to be concluded, attention will shift to Sunday’s resumption as Nnewi Sports Club and Port Harcourt Club seek to complete their outstanding fixtures.
