The Ebonyi State Government has reacted to the recent waves of media attacks, protests and backlashes against the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru describing it as a mere distraction while urging Ebonyians to ignore them.
The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and state orientation, Barr. Chief Ikeuwa Omebe stated this in his office while briefing news men on the recent happenings in the state. The media briefing by the Commissioner is a periodic exercise with Ebonyi journalists.
According to Barr. Chief Ikeuwa Omebe “The government is particularly concerned that some of the recent narratives appear designed to distract the people from issues that truly matter: the roads being constructed, schools being rehabilited, health care facilities receiving attention, workers receiving improved welfare , rural communities being connected to development and the numerous empowerment initiatives targeted at improving the livelihood of the people”
The Commissioner for Information explained that the government of Ebonyi State recognizes and respects the constitutional rights of citizens to protests and criticisms but that such public protests and criticisms should be issue based adding that hiding under the clout of opposition mantra to create tension in the state would not be allowed.
Chief Ikeuwa Omebe therefore calls on all Ebonyians to remain calm and ignore such misleading, misguided narratives and orchestrated distractions insisting that development is not measured by the volume of criticism it generates but by its impact on the lives of the people.
The Ebonyi chief information officer explained that Ebonyians are too discerned to be deceived by such political propaganda adding that the government of Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru anchored on the people’s charter of needs is too focused and too committed to be distracted.
