Silversports Football Club of Mbaise suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Madoka FC of Owerri in Matchday Six of the ongoing 2026 Imo State Football Association League.
The young Mbaise side, who have continued to impress with their fighting spirit in the competition, drew first blood in the 5th minute through centre-back Ebuka, who brilliantly curled a free kick past the advancing Madoka goalkeeper to give Silversports an early lead.
However, the schoolboys, led by promising midfielder Victor Onwunali, a JSS 2 student, were punished for their lack of experience in the closing stages of the first half. Ten minutes before the break, a defensive mix-up between goalkeeper Chibuonu, a JSS 3 student, and one of his defenders gifted Madoka FC the equaliser, sending both sides into the halftime break level at 1-1.
The second half saw the Owerri-based side dominate possession and attack with greater intensity. Playing on such a pitch for the first time, the Silversports players found it difficult to cope with the physical strength and experience of their more mature opponents.
Madoka’s sustained pressure eventually paid off in the 76th minute when their striker Obianeri Callistus poked the ball home to give his side a 2-1 lead.
Rather than surrender, the Pride of Mbaise responded positively, taking control of the game and using the flanks effectively to stretch the Madoka defence. The young boys showed remarkable determination despite their opponents’ earlier confidence of recording a comfortable victory.
Madoka extended their lead in the 81st minute after the Silversports goalkeeper parried a goal-bound effort. A defender then handled the ball while attempting to clear it, prompting the referee to award a penalty and show the defender a red card, reducing Silversports to 10 men. Uka Uchenna converted the resulting spot kick to make it 3-1.
Despite being a man down, Silversports refused to give up. David Anyamele produced a moment of brilliance with a solo run, beating his marker before calmly slotting the ball home to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
The Mbaise side pressed hard for a late equaliser, but Madoka held firm to claim all three points.
In the other Group fixture, Evermore FC of Orlu defeated Chika FC 4-0.
With all Group matches completed, Evermore FC finished top of the table with seven points, scoring seven goals without conceding. Madoka FC also finished on seven points but placed second with five goals scored and two conceded.
Silversports FC ended the campaign in third place with one point, having scored three goals and conceded six, while Chika FC finished bottom with one point, scoring once and conceding seven goals.
