The maiden edition of the Imo State unity cup sponsored by ONE DOSH in partnership with the Imo State ministry of sports kicks off on the 1st of July 2026 at the playground of the Alvan Ikoku federal University of Education in Owerri.
This was disclosed by the organizers in a press conference with members of the sports writers association of Nigeria (SWAN) Imo State chapter at the conference room in Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri.
The chairman of the Local organizing committee (LOC) Mr G.O.C Nwadike in his speech stated that the main aim of the championship is to restore life ones again in various campuses in the state as well as fostering unity, togetherness and peace. He stated that 8 higher institutions across the state will take part in the competition with the opening ceremony on Wednesday 1st July 2026 at the Alvan Ikoku federal University of Education play ground.
The event according to the chairman LOC will be witnessed by the commissioner for sports in IMO state Hon. Obinna Onyeocha and other top government functionaries.
Further more, the representative of the sponsor (ONE DOSH) Miss Cindy Oba said that one of the Cardinal principles of their company is to give back to the society what they have achieved and one of the best ways is to sponsor competitions like the Imo unity cup to carry the youths along in the scheme of things.
In his own remarks, the convener (IMO UNITY CUP) Engr Ugochukwu Obinna Ebonine appreciated the state government through the ministry of sports for the seamless partnership and support to ensure that the tournament runs smoothly and successfully.
He also said that scouts from Bayern Munich FC Germany and the Nigeria professional football league(NPFL) shall be on ground to scout for raw talents in the championship.
The organizers went ahead to disclose the match fixtures with Alvan Ikoku federal University of Education squaring it out against the University of Agriculture Umuagwo on the 1st of July 2026 by 2:00 pm.

The finals will be decided on the 9th and 10th of July with the finals on the 24/7/26 at the main bowl of the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
According to the organizers,
First place winners will go home with #1million.
Second place: #750,000.
Third place: #500,000.
MVP: #100,000
BEST PLAYER: #100,000 and other consolation prizes.
