Silversports Football Club of Mbaise battled to a 1-1 draw with Chika FC of Owerri in an entertaining encounter at the ongoing 2026 Imo State Football Association League.

The youngest team in the competition showed clear improvement after learning from their previous outing, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Evermore FC. Silversports came into the game with more confidence and matched their more experienced opponents with determination and resilience.

Chika FC took the lead in the 17th minute through Akeoma Lucky. Silversports had earlier come close to opening the scoring when Ugochukwu Kennedy missed a golden opportunity to put his side ahead in the 15th minute, as his effort into an open net went wide.

Uchenna Eguatu caused problems for the Owerri side’s defence with his impressive runs down the flank. Eguatu repeatedly stretched the Chika FC defence with his pace and delivered dangerous balls into the attacking area, creating opportunities for his team.

Chika FC turned the pressure on the Mbaise-based side and capitalised on their chances, going into the break with the advantage.

The second half saw a different Silversports side as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Uchenna Eguatu and Nkwocha Chukwuma continued to torment the Chika FC defence with their attacking movements, while the entire team increased the pressure.

Silversports came inches away from levelling the score in the 80th minute, but their effort rattled the woodwork. Chika FC responded immediately with an attempt of their own that also struck the post, keeping the game finely balanced.

The pressure finally paid off for Silversports in the 95th minute when Anyamele scored what could be described as one of the goals of the competition. Captain Obinna started the move with a brilliant run down the line before Anyamele rounded two defenders with a fine dribble and calmly finished to find the back of the net, securing a deserved equaliser and a valuable point for his team.

In the other game of the day, Evermore FC and Madoka FC played out a goalless draw, leaving Evermore top of the table with four points. Chika FC occupy third position with one point, while Silversports FC remain at the bottom of the table with one point.
