The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has taken disciplinary action against two referees following their controversial handling of a Nationwide League One (NLO) match between Oisa FC and Dom Daniel FC at the Awka Centre.
In an official letter from the NFF Refereeing Development Unit, referees Ignatius Nwanekwu and Chinoso Ezeh were found to have made critical decisions that were not in line with the Laws of the Game. According to the NFF, their actions adversely affected the outcome of the match and brought the game into disrepute.
The letter, signed by Mohammed Ameenu, Chairman of the NFF Referees’ Committee, stated:
“Such a glaring display of impunity did not only negatively affect the outcome of the match but equally brings the game to disrepute.”
As a result, the referees have been indefinitely suspended from officiating NLO matches, with immediate effect.
The decision has been copied to the President and General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation as well as the Chief Operating Officer of the NLO, reinforcing the seriousness of the matter.
This move underscores the Federation’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of football officiating across all levels of the game in Nigeria.
