..hails Late Nze Peter Agoh
A former player of Golden Guinea FC of Umuahia and Zamalek of Egypt, Eze Charles Iroegbu has called on upcoming footballers to desist from engaging in acts that will ruin their careers, Wakawaka Sports Extra reports.
Speaking at the novelty football game in honour of Late Nze Peter Agoh, the traditional ruler of Umuezie Nguru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo state called on the youngsters to be dedicated in improving themselves rather than focus on the monetary aspect of the game.
He went further to eulogise the Late Nze Agoh for the tremendous impact on his career while describing him as a mentor and teacher.
“When I was at Umuahia, we would have village football match, he would come to Umuahia and get me to play for my people. He is a trainer, my mentor who taught me a little bit about football when I was at Enyiogugu Secondary School.
“Anything we decides today to curtail or improve we must leave that quest for money. Quest for money is damaging a lot of things and even our boys who are growing now to play football, there are some certain things we don’t do those days – smoke, drink. All these things are killing our football career.
“If you go out of Nigeria and see how footballers are being kept, there are some certain things they don’t do. Those days we don’t play for money. We play let people see us that we are good footballers.
“I could remember if some people come to Umuahia to pick me those days, I don’t say give me money but am always happy that I’m one of the stars of Umuezie Nguru.
“What we must do to encourage these boys is to tell them the truth that you must train before you become a good footballer. Tell them the secret of footballers, play and admire what they are doing, then money will come but today when you tell them to come and play for your village, they will say give me money but that is killing our system as far as football is concerned.
“When you train forget about smoking and womanizing, you will see the money will come. Even the ones that played yesterday can’t move but they are fine footballers because they don’t train well.”
