Former Super Falcons sensation, Maureen Mmadu, has expressed delight as the first female to be inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.
Mmadu, who made more than 100 appearances for the Nigeria Women’s National Football Team including appearing at four FIFA Women’s World Cup and competing in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics said it’s an award to do more in the football world.
The former Assistant Coach of Avaldsnes FC in Norway who recently celebrated her birthday, in a chat with Wakawaka Sports Extra, believes that hardwork and dedication plays a very pivotal role in the life of an individual.
Mmadu said: “I’m so happy being the first person to be inducted into the Woman Hall of Fame. At least, it gives me more joy and I must say a very thank you God because it will encourage me to do more because to whom much is given more is expected.
“It’s good to be hardworking and one have to be focused in everything you do. I won’t relent in my efforts for sports.
The former Assistant Coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria added that female football in Africa is developing, noting that other African teams are competing very well to catch up with Nigeria.
“Woman football is developing in Africa now that CAF has given teams to participate in champions league unlike the past. It also make everybody to fight one particular place. I see Africa doing better in women football.
“Every African country is trying to catch up with us. Like South Africa, Cameroon and others that have been there. Female football is growing because everybody wants to beat Nigeria. We also continue to work hard like we normally do.
The FIFA Women’s Century Club Inductee went further to eulogise the heroics of 14-year old sensation, Harmony Achiefula, in the NWFL Nationwide play-off in Benin City while encouraging her to remain focused and dedicated.
“I have been following the story about her. It’s a very good thing we have to go back to the grassroots. For a 14-year old to play fearlessly, score hatrick goals and keep moving is good.
“It’s good for us to go to the grassroots because catching them young is going to be the most important thing for us. She is coming up and I have to advise her to keep working hard, humble and don’t ler anything distract her. The way she is going the sky will be her limit.”
