The Enugu State Taekwondo Association (ESTA) has reportedly unveiled it’s programs for the calendar year, hinting that the association is charged to create more awareness and sensitization within the primary and secondary levels, organise more grassroots programs and promote discipline and healthy living within the society.
This was made known to the pubic over the weekend, after series of deliberations between the association’s chairman and some it’s member at the Inspector General of Police (IGP), POCACOV resource centre, Enugu.
In an exclusive phone chat with alpha sports correspondent, Ugo Okeiyi, Chairman of the Enugu State Taekwondo Association, Chief Supritendent of Police (CSP) Ebere Amarizu stated that the aim of the meeting was to conduct a post morten of the previous year programs while also outlining and projecting the activities of the calendar year.
Amarizu, who is also the National Coordinator of the Police Campaigan Against Crime and Other Related Vices (POCACOV) further revealed that the association will definitely partner with individuals, cooperate bodies, agencies, government parastatals and the relevant stakeholders in other to promote the sport in schools, at grassroot level and every strata of life.
Similarly, POCACOV which is a national youth oriented program is designed to work closely with the Enugu State Taekwondo Association in other to inculcate and imbibe the tenents and core values of life in children especially the girl-child, which is also a way to position and prepare them against any adverse situation.
On his part, former African and National Champion, grandmaster Dennis Ani expressed satisfaction over the activities of the association during last year’s program, revealing that the five south eastern states would be collaborating with the national federation to promote the sport in the region.
Reflecting on the challenges the combat sports is experiencing in the state, Ani who is also the Coach of the Enugu State Taekeondo is soliciting for more support, stressing on the urgent need to expose the athletes to modern day fighting equipments such as mat, apparel, body gears, facilities etc for better and optimal performance.
It would be recalled that over 50 athletes from the five south eastern states participated in the first edition of the U-18 South East Poomase Championship hosted in Enugu, in October 2021.
